Connections to Peace Week Themes (Economic Justice and Health)
Connecting to Peace Team goals, in October 2013, the Casady YAC sponsored a Food Drive benefiting the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. In January 2014, Casady Service-Learning in collaboration with Casady YAC sponsored a day of service at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. The Casady parents promoted a Food, Funding and toiletry Drive for the Guild of Saint George to Slay the Dragon of Poverty helping needy Oklahomans who are assisted by the Episcopal Guild.
The Lower Division Third Grade Team had an advocacy/fundraising project in their curriculum in the Spring. Students learned about fair trade, chocolate production, sold chocolate bars and allocated proceeds by percentages to non-profit organizations they investigated during class. The Fair Trade Chocolate Project was featured at the National Service Learning Conference in DC by Mr. Jeff Bush
Finally, the Lower Division had Jump Rope for Heart in the month of January.
On 9/16 and 9/17 CHILDREN, YOUTH AND WOMEN DAYS: The Middle Division students wrote characteristics of peacemakers in a gigantic sign make by art teacher, Melody Huber.
The Casady Service-Learning Program started to promote the second training for Youth LEAD OKC which took place in October, on Make a Difference Day. http://youthleadokc.blogspot.com/.
UD YAC students in collaboration with drama teacher, Mr. Tim Crafton started a peer to peer education following theater of the oppressed tenants addressing awareness of what are the forms of bullying in our school during a chapel service. The end result was eye-opening.
YAC chairs promoted ice breakers to get to know each other better during meetings.
The Lower Division students made and signed pledges not to tolerate bullying in their classrooms.
Mr. Crofton's drama 7th and 8th grade classes prepared skits, PIECES OF PEACE, which they performed during our chapel services.
The after school care program continued their awareness raising campaign through visual arts creating posters of the 11 Days of Global Unity.
UD choir sang an inspirational song at UD Chapel. Choir teachers from all divisions helped raise awareness of the International Day of Peace focusing on peace songs and featuring their choirs at all chapels.

)
Today's girls will be the women of tomorrow: and if a girl is educated, her value to her family, her community and their economic well-being is proven to increase. One extra year in school alone will increase a woman's lifetime income by at least 10%. The video was available at all Casady service-learning blogs on 12 March. We did not participate on the Google Hangout Girls with Books and why they are the New Global Power - where A World at School and girls' education advocates from around the world shared ideas.
National Volunteer Week Connections to Peace Week
In March, for National Volunteer Week, YAC had a screening of Girl Rising for the whole school on a Saturday. YAC also screened one of the stories during a regular meeting at B-block.

http://www.youthforhumanrights.org/what-are-human-rights.html.
The after school program children created a freedom flag with their names as the stars because with velvet over sandpaper words and actions they become guardians of freedom for everyone.
Peace Week Connection
