Images from Peace Day across the Great Lakes region of Africa

Dear Friend,

What a day it was! All over the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Great Lakes region of Africa, Peace Day was a huge success. Thousands of events were held and millions were made aware of the day across the region.

In all four corners of the globe, Peace Day was marked and celebrated in a way we’ve never seen before. More people than ever are now aware of the day – and more lives will be positively impacted as a consequence.

It’s thanks to your hard work and support that this happened.

From our Peace Day Celebration in Goma, attended by thousands, to visits to refugee camps, mass vaccinations, special prayer services, peace walks, workshops and football matches, there was just so much inspiring activity, involving all sectors of society.

We would be very grateful if you could send us your photos and video from your Peace Day activities so that we can help to tell your story of the day, and to inspire others to join this movement for peace in the future*. Please also send us any links to media coverage of your event, including social media, so that we can measure the impact of the day.

What a remarkable celebration of peace! We can all be proud of the achievements of last Sunday. And we can also use Sunday as a platform to build something even bigger – a lasting and sustainable peace wherever we are in the world.

Together, let’s make 21 September the blueprint for a better, more peaceful society. Let’s continue working as one and make 2015 an even bigger year for Peace Day right across the world. Together we can achieve so much!

Thanks again for all of your efforts.

In peace,

Jeremy

Mass Collaboration for Compassionate Action
Tomorrow is the day to dedicate our attention to the future of our planet. People from all over the world are coming together in solidarity recognizing the urgency of the situation and this unique moment of choice. What kind of future do we want for our children and our children’s children?  Everyone has a voice and everyone matters. The world needs to hear from you. This is a moment to stand up for what’s right, to stand up for our future, to stand up for peace and compassion. Our precious mother Earth needs protectors who can see past the shameless pursuit of profit at the expense of our future.

Measuring Our Compassion In Action
Our results can be an annual benchmark for measuring our collective capacity to play the games and develop the skills we need to learn to treat each other, our earth, and ourselves with the utmost love and compassion.  In the end we are only competing with ourselves. Ultimately, the games are about looking at the ways we are in the world and challenging ourselves to become the ways we want to be, to be living examples.

September 21 and 22: Peace Day and the Day after Peace Day

Secret Agent of Compassion
 What's Next - Sept 22, 2014

Greetings Agents!

This message is a quick thank you for your involvement in the Secret Agent of Compassion game over the last week and a half, and to further introduce you to Kind Living, the organization that provided it. If you enjoyed the secret agent game, you'll be pleased to know that Kind Living offers free activities like it all year long.

In fact, I'm starting an 8 week online kindness activity next Sunday for anyone in the world who wants to join.

Participants will be reading journalist Mike McIntyre's book "The Kindness of Strangers" and considering and completing weekly kindness actions generated by the reading.

We'll look at the acts of kindness bestowed on McIntyre as he crossed the US on foot, penniless, relying on the kindness of strangers to feed, shelter, and transport him.

To fully participate, get a copy of the book and then connect next Sunday to the website where I'll be posting the reading assignments, kindness action suggestions, as well as messages of inspiration and reflection.

Thanks again for being a secret agent. I hope to see you again next year, maybe even sooner!

 -Andy Smallman, Kind Living

September 21:  Peace Day

Secret Agent of Compassion
 Mission 011 - Sept 21, 2014

Good Morning Agents!

You now know how powerful you are and that inside of you is the antidote to all things negative. Recognize that you don't need missions to carry out the work of spreading kindness, patience, empathy, and compassion. You know what to do. You always have.

Reflect on what you've done over the past 10 days. See if you find a nugget of truth in the idea that EVERY act of kindness and compassion you performed increased the amount of antidote that was already inside of you. As such, consider EVERY kind and compassionate thing you do in your life as increasing the amount of this antidote that exists in the world.

Think about this antidote. Put a word on it. Define it for yourself.

What word did you choose?

Write it down. Post it on your Facebook page and share it with others. Tweet it with the hashtag #secretagentofcompassion. Write it on sticky notes and post them around town. Make yourself a T-shirt with nothing but that word on it. Choose an action today that supports what your word means to you.Do the same thing tomorrow, and the day after that, and the day after that…

Spread the word.

Finally, post your word and a short summary of your personal experience today on the Compassion Map.

Thank you, agents. Thank you, my friends.

"History has shown that, no matter how fierce, conflict can end, peace can prevail and reconciliation can triumph. On 21 September, at concerts around the world -- in major cities and small towns, in conflict zones and peaceful communities –- people will broadcast this essential message. They celebrate the value of human diversity and the strength of our unity.  "...I urge every peace-loving person to engage with their friends and neighbors, their community organizations and governments. Secret Agent of Compassion
 Mission 009 - Sept 19, 2014

Good News Agents!

There is another super-structure of compassion that exists. It is built from organizations that are involved in promoting kindness and good work around the globe. Here at IKT HQ, we looking to combine our efforts with these organizations in order to exponentially increase our ability to disseminate the antidote.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to help one of these organizations improve their efforts at fulfilling their purposes. You can do this by volunteering your time, donating money, or providing resources.

In completing this mission, imagine the feelings and reactions generated in someone who will benefit from your involvement with the organization you choose. Put yourself in that person's shoes by thinking how much you'd appreciate such thoughtful awareness from someone else.

Should your actions or those of any of the International Kindness Team be exposed, it will increase thepositive ripple effect of creating more kindness in the world. Thus, we at IKT HQ request that you report your activities on the Compassion Map.

Good luck, agents.

This mission can be viewed at the IKT HQ website.

Ode to Peace (teaser) September 19, 2014

"Ode to Peace"
(Hymne à la Paix)

to Resound Around the World on
International Day of Peace, September 21

A musical message of hope for a troubled world
composed by
Frédéric Chaslin,
performed by the
Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra

NEW YORK, NY, September 15, 2014 - On Sunday September 21, an estimated one billion people around the world will be made aware of-and tens of millions will gather at events to celebrate-the International Day of Peace (a day established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981). At the same time, a brand new "peace anthem" will be released into-and resound around-the world.
Ode to Peace was recorded in Jerusalem, the City of Peace, on September 7, 2014. Composed and conducted by Frédéric Chaslin, "Ode to Peace" is performed by the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.

Produced by French-Israeli producer Andre Djaoui in association with Jean Trudel of the Montreal-based Cercle de Paix - Circle of Peace, "Ode to Peace" will be released as "a gift to the world from Jerusalem", on Peace Day, as part of the peace wave that begins with a moment of silence at noonin every time zone around the world.

"There has never been a better time to release such a message into the world," says Frédéric Chaslin. "Through the universal language of music-combined with the voices of children-we can deliver a message of peace and hope directly to people's hearts and souls."

"Ode to Peace" includes a chorus with original lyrics by Djaoui/Trudel to reflect United Nation's theme for this year's International Day of Peace-The Right of Peoples to Peace.

"It's a historic recording made in a holy city," says Andre Djaoui, "and we are hoping that it will resonate on Peace Day and beyond with people who crave that most basic human right: the right to peace."

Cercle de Paix, as a representative of Pathways To Peace and partner organizations in the peace community will be combining to give "Ode to Peace" huge visibility in international media, on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and beyond. "This year's #PeaceDay is already generating unprecedented global participation on social media," says Jean Trudel. "People are speaking out and sharing messages of peace. 'Ode to Peace' is a unique and powerful piece of content that will be enjoyed and shared on every social platform."

A trailer for "Ode to Peace" will be made available online at internationaldayofpeace.org onSeptember 19, 2014, to coincide with the official United Nations observance ceremonies.
The trailer will then be released to the world, on multiple channels beginning at noon in all time zones on September 21, 2014. The full video will be released a few weeks later for download.
