FOREWORD FROM JEREMY GILLEY Five Months To Go: Just back from another series of youth rallies, this time in Kigali and Gisenyi, Rwanda and Goma, DRC. The people I met and the reasons why they are taking action on Peace Day continue to inspire me. The kind support of the Howard G. Buffett foundation has enabled us to run a focused campaign there since 2013, with a particular emphasis on youth – the peacemakers of the future. The campaign is growing so fast, with organisations mobilizing on Peace Day on a range of issues that affect communities across the region. Last year over 4,500 activities took place in the Great Lakes region of Africa and we hope that this year even more will take place in the name of peace. Our education poster campaign continues to reach classrooms in the region, with over 70,000 posters distributed so far in Kenya, Rwanda, DRC and Uganda. This is a truly creative way of engaging schoolchildren with ways they can get involved on Peace Day. Click hereto watch a short film that shows what this campaign is all about. This year we are excited to distribute these posters to classrooms in Burundi alongside DRC, Rwanda and Uganda. Meanwhile, momentum is growing as we continue our preparations for the Peace Day Youth Celebration in Kampala, Uganda on 21 September (click here for details). This is going to be such an incredible celebration, bringing together musicians, dance groups, choirs, and young peacemakers from all over the Great Lakes region to celebrate peace. We have seen the impact of Peace Day spread across the globe, building peace in homes, schools, workplaces and communities. A month ago, he joined Peace One Day in Uganda and recorded this enthusiastic message of support.
